Julie Ward

Short Biography

Julie Ward's research centers on Ancient Greek philosophy, especially Aristotle, with a focus on topics in his metaphysics and theories of language and predication. Her most recent work is Aristotle on Homonymy: Dialectic and Science (Cambridge University Press, 2008); related papers include ‘Focal Reference in Aristotle's Account of Philia: Eudemian Ethics VII 2’, Apeiron 28 (1995): 183–205, and ‘Souls and Figures: Defining the Soul in De Anima ii 3’, Ancient Philosophy 16 (1996): 113–28. Two anthologies are concerned to relate ancient Greek and contemporary concerns, namely, Feminism and Ancient Philosophy (Routledge, 1996), and a co-edited volume, Philosophers on Race: Critical Essays (Blackwell, 2001). She is presently working on the concept of human nature in Plato and Aristotle. After her B.A. from University of Colorado, she received her Ph.D. in Philosophy from University of California, San Diego. She is currently Professor in the Philosophy Department at Loyola University, Chicago.
